Full DetailsABOUT THORPE VILLA Thorpe Villa is an imposing Ashlar stone fronted property under a hipped stone slate roof. It features 2 windows to either side of its impressive 4 columned portico entrance. It is grade II listed and believed to date back to circa 1807 and features a wonderful array of traditional features from the Georgian period. The property is located just off of Northgate, the main street through the centre of Almondbury and partially linked to the row of shops at the rear by a separate 2 storey building.
The front portico opens into a wonderful entrance hall which features a domed ceiling and curved walls with inset doors leading through to the two front reception rooms and the main hallway. Both of these rooms feature 2 sets of tall sash windows overlooking the gardens, the lounge has recently been refurbished and features a wooden parquet floor and period marble fireplace. The dining room is currently used as a space to work from home.
Moving on to the main hallway which forms the centre of the house you cannot fail to be impressed by its magnificent stone staircase and stone flagged floor. Arched openings to either side give access to the kitchen and another good sized reception room which is currently used as a sitting / games room. You will also find a well-appointed downstairs WC within the lobby area which leads through to the kitchen.
The kitchen is well proportioned like the other rooms and has been recently refitted with bespoke fitted units and a large island unit with quartz worksurfaces and a 4 oven Aga range cooker. Off the kitchen there is a walk through lobby / larder which features matching units and double doors opening into the lounge. There is also a rear hallway which features 2 doors to the rear of the building and a door with stairs leading down to the cellars. The cellars are again extensive with a series of 7 rooms in total located off a central vaulted section.
On the first floor there is a large open landing area which overlooks the stairwell and features a tall arched window above the stairs. The principal bedroom has a lovely marble fireplace, fitted wardrobes, sash windows to the front and a modern en-suite with double shower. There are 2 further double bedrooms on this level and a 4th bedroom which would have originally been the nursery bedroom (also accessible from bedroom 1). There is also a very handy laundry room and house bathroom.
The two remaining bedrooms are accessible by going down a couple of steps from the landing to the half landing. A lobby area here gives access to bedroom 5 which is perfect for use as a guest bedroom having its own en-suite shower room. There is also a further double bedroom directly above this which has an en-suite WC and store room off it.
The property has undergone much improvement by our clients since they purchased it in 2015 with great care taken to preserve the original period details and enhance the property with tasteful fixtures and fittings. It features a gas central heating system and we understand that it is connected to all mains services.
Externally, the property is best approached from its original gateway from Thorpe Lane with automatic gates that lead to a gravelled driveway curving around the front of the building. Beyond this there are garden areas to the front and side of the house with steps leading down to a further lower level garden beyond.
