Jane Stocks – An Incredible FOURTY Years in Estate Agency

Jane Stocks is our famous Slaithwaite office branch manager and she has hit a huge milestone by being in estate agency for 40 years.

Jane entered the world of estate agency in May 1985 when she started work at Eddisons Estate Agents in Huddersfield.  With the exception of brief family commitments Jane has spent the majority of her career in the Colne Valley and surrounding areas.   She started in a secretarial/admin role which quickly progressed until she carried out her first property valuation in the mid-1990s at Cross Firs Street in Longwood just before she became Manager and Associate Partner at Carter Jonas. After spending the larger par of her career with Carter Jonas in Slaithwaite, alongside the Dartmouth Estate, she set up on her own in Marsden in 2007.  Wm Sykes & Son then secured a deal with her to come and manage their new Slaithwaite branch back in 2017 and the rest is history. The Colne Valley has dominated Jane’s working life.

As you can imagine, she has had some weird and wonderful experiences along the way including being held hostage by various animals such as mini goats, geese, a parrot, and a vicious cat, was once asked to lie down next to the vendor on a plush rug to look at something impressive (ask Jane for more details), has seen a basement conversion where a pop up skeleton tends the bar, and in 2000/2001 she was privileged to be asked to market Huddersfield’s first million pound house sale where the owner was throwing in a free Rolls Royce which became a front page newspaper article and required Jane to do a radio interview.

We are proud to have her as an integral part of the Wm Sykes team.

Like the select few property professionals who have worked in estate agency for so long there are stories to tell and maybe even a book to write. Let’s see if she writes her memoirs in years to come.
