Paul Dixon 1954-2026
We are extremely sad to share the news that our long time leader Paul Dixon passed away on Monday of this week. He joined Wm Sykes & Son straight from school at the age of 15, before taking over the reins fully after the death of his father Vernon in 1983.
Whilst Paul has not been a regular visitor to the office over more recent years, he still took a keen interest in the running of the business, continued to advise his farming clients and conducted property auction sales.
Many will know him from his role as auctioneer at Huddersfield and Penistone Cattle Markets, Meltham and Bretton Sheep Fairs along with Holmfirth Cattle Market in later times.
Away from work he was a member of Holme Valley Parish Council for over 40 years and active in a number of other groups where he made many life long friends.
On Thursday 1st October there will be a Family Committal Service followed by a Service to Celebrate Paul’s Life at Christ Church, New Mill HD9 7ER at 12.00 noon, to which all are welcome.
Paul’s family and colleagues have been overwhelmed with the number of kind messages already received and we would love to hear your memories of him below.
